Located just a mile away fromDelamere Forestin the heart of rural Cheshire in the UK is a unique, family run, glamping experience at a lakeside meadow with an idyllic English countryside feel.

Lloyd’s Meadow Glampingin Cheshire offers traditional and luxurious canvas 5 meter bell tents, each nestled within its own private area near to one of their well stocked lakes.

This seasonal resort is a charming as it gets, but for now at least, they’re onlyopen from early April through September.

The resort offers modern and community bathhouses and a communal dining and lounge area. The wifi and parking are free, and of course, the nature and mountain views are too.

It’s also located 800 feet from the Zerotta Cable Car, linking to the Courmayeur Ski Area, just a 10-minute drive from the Hobo Camp.

Guests enjoy a relaxation area with a table and chairs right outside each tent, and there is a shared barbecue at the camping.

The Skyway Mont Blanc is 4.3 miles from the property, which is at the foot of Mont Blanc.

Family-runFinca de Arrietais an enclave of yurts, just outside the sleepy village of Arrieta, in the North of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. This is a far cry from the package holiday scenes typically associated with the island.

The North offers the most panoramic views and unspoilt towns of the island, as well as some beautiful secluded beaches. It’s really a very beautiful region, and not a high rise in sight!

Finca de Arrieta is leading the way in eco-tourism for the Canaries, and quite possibly, Spain.

The eco-resort has been built using locally sourced materials, and is entirely off-grid.

There are a range of yurts at Finca de Arrieta to suit all budgets and group sizes, as well as a couple of quirky lodges like theEco Surf ShackandEco Cabin.

Each accommodation is unique and private from its neighbor, yet a sense of belonging radiates through this eco-conscious community, firmly established with Monday's Paella Night.

There is very much a family focus at Finca de Arrieta and at lot of effort has been made to welcome young kids — there’s a solar-heated kids’ pool and playground (with huge trampoline), the toy box in the common area, and the pile of buckets and spades to borrow for the beach just a 3 minute walk away.

Plus, there are chickens, donkeys and bunnies to meet, and I should also mention kids yoga and movie night!

Theglamping resort of Big Berryin southern Slovenia sits quietly on the Kolpa River which divides Slovenia from Croatia. The understated luxury resort is located in the beautiful Bela Krajina region, a 1.5-2 hour drive fromLjubljana, the capital of Slovenia, andZagreb, Croatia.

Big Berry can arrange to pick you up from either. There’s also train service from Ljubljana to Bela Krajina.

There are seven minimalist glamping ‘pods’, orberrieswhich face a stretch of lawn with mature trees. The Kolpa River runs through the front yard, and there’s a cow pasture behind.

The staff calls this the ‘luxury landscape’, and the setting is bucolic and serene.

The berries all have air conditioning, heat, hot water, wifi, very comfy beds, and fluffy towels. There was even a hot tub on our porch.

One of the truly special parts about staying at Big Berry is the partnerships they’ve established with local farmers and producers, many of whom you can visit and learn from.

Each morning, you select your breakfast for the next day from a list of items provided by local producers. Before you even set foot out of bed, it’s delivered to your doorstep in a small wooden crate or basket.

There are bicycles to explore the countryside and canoes to paddle the slow-moving Kolpa river.

Their brand is best described as the “luxury of freedom” — the freedom to decide what to do and how spend your time. Relaxation at whatever pace you choose.

Pai, Thailand

Pai can easily be called one of the most beautiful places in Northern Thailand.

It’s also one of the moreoffbeat places in Thailandand has been attracting backpackers and new-age hippies for years.

The Safari-style cottageMari Pai Resortis peacefully located on the hill slope which enables guests to enjoy some of the most beautiful views in Pai.

Located off the tourist route, this resort offers you complete privacy.

But when you want to go out there and explore the sights, the resort’s location is perfect.

There are several types of rooms including a Mobile Home, Cottage, Bungalow, and others.

Each room features a comfy double bed, air conditioning, TV, hairdryer, spacious private bathroom, and balcony (in most rooms).

The most unique thing about the resort is its gardens, wooden swings and some of the most delightful views!

The resort is perfect for couples, families, and people who want to wake up surrounded by magnificent hills of Pai, but at the same time in the comfort of their hotel.

The Pai bus station is located 2-3 km away from the resort and while they have a local airport that is finally back in service again with daily flights, it’s not the suggested means of transportation.

If you’re coming this far out to enjoy the solitude, we find it best to arrive here by motorbike as it’s one of the most unique experiences you’ll have in the region.

Mari Pai Resort is close toWat Sai KhaoandWat Thung PongBuddhist Temples.Coffee in Loveis within walking distance ready to brew a cup of fresh coffee for your morning ritual.

Pai’s night marketand the actual city center are about 2-3 km from the resort. We found it be very convenient to rent a scooter to visit sites that were a bit further, such asPai Canyon, hot springs, orMo Paeng Waterfall.

Of course, the resort has free parking for guests and free wifi on the resort grounds.

Royal Deeside, Scotland

Luxury glamping in the rural heart of Royal Deeside, Scotland — that is what’s on offer at Howe of Torbeg. Howe of Torbeg’s transformed cabins are crafted from local pine and heated inside.

While staying here the cabin smells like a Christmas tree (which is weirdly acceptable all year round to me).

Royal Deeside itself is located on the outskirts of the Cairngorms National Park — the largest national park in Scotland and the UK.

Being an avid hiker, the Cairngorms are my favorite place to be in Scotland, hosting 5 of the 6 highest mountains, orMunrosas we call them, in Scotland.

Coming back to a warm glamping pod after a long day of hiking beats a tent any day (or night) of the week.

Ballater is the closest village to Howe of Torbeg — it’s a quaint Scottish village with an excellent sense of community and there are lots of funthings to do in Ballateras well.

What makes this glamping experience special is the clear, quiet nights spent in the middle of Scotland coupled with the awe inspiring beauty of the mountainous landscape by day.

If camping is for those who want to disconnect from the every day and glamping is for those who don’t particularly like tents, then Howe of Torbeg is about as close as you can get to real rural camping without actually camping.

Andalucia, Spain

One of the best glamping destinations in Spain is in Southern Spain, more precisely in a small town near Granada called Guadix, which is famous for its cave homes.

Indeed, the landscape near Guadix boasts hundreds of caves and for decades these caves have been inhabited. And they still are today!

While some caves are private homes, other ones have been turned into glamping resorts.

Stay atCueva La Tala, an experience unlike anything else. The cave is located in a complex with several other caves and is truly isolated.

The best part is that this rustic caves comes with amazing luxury features. There's a huge bathtub and swimming pool awaiting you.

The best is when you wake up and all you hear is pure, 100% silence.

Cueva La Tala is truly unique as you'll get to live in the traditional setting of Andalusian caves. This makes it one oftop things to do in Andalusia.

You shouldn’t visit Andalusia without trying its delicious tapas. From the Cueva La Tala it is only a short drive to Guadix or even Granada where some of the finest tapas bars in Southern Spain are awaiting you.

If you don’t fancy driving too long, consider having having dinner inMeson Granadul, an Iberico ham factory. The ham was out of this world!

Scotland is a beautiful country, with so much nature and wildlife to explore. It is the perfect country to enjoy and embrace nature all with the comfort of glamping.

It’s the perfect place to go to enjoy the outdoors, but all with the comforts of sleeping in a real bed and having a nice hot shower.

There are several hiking trails that start right from the campsite to enjoy, however, Loch Ness is also full of great hiking trails for all difficulty levels and time durations, all within a short drive from the campsite.

If hiking isn’t your thing, Loch Ness is the perfect spot to take a boat tour in hunt for Nessy. Or even just head to town and watch the boats go through the lochs.

There is something for everyone in Loch Ness.

We’ve long been fans of going on African safaris and when we had kids, we were really excited to find out, contrary to popular belief, that you can go onsafari with kidstoo.

We chose malaria-free Buffelsdrift Game Lodge in Oudtshoorn because it's very family-friendly and conveniently located on the famous Garden Route.

If, however, you drive direct from Cape Town to Oudtshoorn, it’s about 400km or a 5-hour drive.

There’s so much to see and do in Oudtshoorn, including the Cango Caves, ostrich farms and mountain biking and hiking in the Swartberg mountains, but you may be tempted to spend all your time at Buffelsdrift.

The facilities are excellent. The restaurant, bar, spa and pool all overlook the lake where you’ll spot hippos.

You don’t need to leave your tent to see wildlife as there’s plenty wandering through the camp, but they offer family-friendly game drives as well as lion, elephant and meerkat experiences.

We don’t usually like to participate in animal tourism, but these animals are loved and well cared for. It’s a fantastic learning experience for the kids.

The luxury safari tents accommodate 2 or 4 people and have polished wooden floors, super comfy beds, a roll-top bath with a double sink, an outdoor shower and the all-important veranda overlooking the lake.

We loved to enjoy the sunset with a glass of something cold from the fridge.

At the end of a busy day, there’s no better feeling than listening to the sounds of Africa as you drift off to sleep in your luxury safari tent.

Dehigaha ela, Sigiriya, Sri Lanka

There is little doubts that Back of Beyond Dehigaha Ela is one of the best glamping resorts in the world.

Back of Beyond Dehigaha Ela is located between Sigiriya and Dambulla.

From there, you can easily access three of the most interesting places to visit in Sri Lanka.

Sigiriya Rock Fortress is possibly the most famous attraction in the country.

Pidurangala, which is right opposite Sigiriya, is not nearly as popular yet incredibly charming. This rock temple can be accessed for a real steal and from the top you’ll be afforded stunning views of Sigiriya.

Dambulla is also one of the most famous Buddhist temple in Sri Lanka.

There are many other amazingthings to do in Sigiriyaas well.

The resort itself is rustic, with touches of luxury and charming overall. You have the option to sleep in one of the tree houses, which are entirely open and offer beautiful views of the surrounding park, or in the boulder cottages, which are more secluded.

Both room options have large outdoor bathrooms and are furnished in the traditional way, with wooden furniture.

Back of Beyond Dehigaha Ela offers nature walks in the forest and arranges bird watching and elephant watching excursions to the nearby Kaudulla or Minneriya National Park.

There is an on-site restaurant offering freshly prepared dishes from the local tradition.

Guests can enjoy the hammocks in the park, and even opt for a fish pedicure in the nearby river.

The city of Xpu Ha is situated right on the white sandy beaches and turquoise waters of Mexico and is home toThe Serenity Glamping Resort.

Located only an hour from Cancun and 30 minutes fromTulum, you must stay at this zen, relaxing place for a night or two next time you’re in the area.

The resort has amazing, massive eco-luxury tents that include air conditioning, hot showers, wifi, a king-size bed and hammocks on the patio.

The best part? The outdoor jetted hot tub! You can walk down the beach path to the Serenity Beach Club, where guests have free use of the beach chairs all day.

One of my personal favorites isWildman Wilderness Lodge, located in the Mary River Wetlands, near the famous world-heritage listed Kakadu National Park, which makes a great addition to anyNorthern Territory road trip.

The lodge comprises of air-conditioned, free-standing habitats, fan-cooled glamping safari tents, an infinity pool, bar and restaurant.

It is a 'recycled resort'; made out of the infrastructure of the now dismantled Wrotham Park that was transported 2800kms across Australia.

From your veranda you'll be able to watch wallabies and kangaroos emerge at dusk, as well as admire the myriad of species of birds that call the Wetlands home.

The Home Billabong cruise took place at sunrise with bearded bushman Wade where we went crocodile spotting.

The Leichardt Point sundowners package includes a drive through lush wetlands in time to watch over 200 birds fly overhead during sunset, accompanied with champagne, beers and nibbles.

TheCapella Ubudfeels like a luxurious African tented camp that's been airlifted and dropped in the jungles of Ubud in Bali.

What makes this particular glamping experience unique is the design.

Conservation activist Bill Bensley is known in the luxe hotel world for his flamboyantly vibrant properties in remote destinations like the Four Seasons Tented Camp in the Golden Triangle or the Shinta Mani Wild in Cambodia.

He convinced the owner of Capella to retain the gorgeous nature. So instead of turning the property into a 100+ room resort, he kept it as a high-end tented property.

In this way the tented rooms are ergonomically placed in the preserved rainforest.

The inspiration for Capella came from the first European settler to arrive in Indonesia. European colonial elements blend seamlessly with the local Balinese design in the property near Mount Agung.

For preservation reasons, the tents are built around the nature so you may even find a tree in the middle of room.

There are 23 luxury tents and no two are alike, where each one is named and decorated after specific professions like Baker or Painter. The one similarity is that all tents have their own salt-water pools.

There are two restaurants on the property, all-day Mad’s Lounge and dinner-only Api Jiwa. Both are spectacular, and of coursebreakfast in Baliis unlike anywhere else.

There are also some unique activities not readily available at other resorts that are more local and immersive. These include early morning treks across the rice paddies with a local guide, Mount Agung sunrise hikes or learning about cacao.

There is also the Auriga Spa by the main pool as well as a state-of-the-art gym. Then, take a stroll to the traditional Balinese Hindu Wos Temple.

Spending a night or two amongst the dunes at a desert camp is a must-do when travelling in Oman.

Like many of its neighboring countries, Oman is home to nomadic Bedouin tribes, and offers camp-style accommodations inspired by their traditional dwellings and vibrant culture.

The 5-starDesert Nights Campis special because it’s the only luxury camp of its kind in the country.

The camp is located in the Sharqiya Sands (Wahiba Sands) region, close to Wadi Bani Khalid on the edge of the Arabian Desert — the ‘Empty Quarter’ — and is quite isolated.

If you’re onan Oman road trip, you can organize to rendezvous in the nearby town of Al Wasil for a transfer to the camp.

This means you don’t have to worry about renting a 4x4 or driving through the sand dunes.

Accommodation is provided in 39 luxury tents, all furnished with Bedouin-inspired décor and featuring a sail-cloth ceiling.

Beautiful handmade carpets, textiles woven from goat’s hair and pressed brass bathroom fittings add to the authenticity.

Tents are spacious, with a separate lounge area, bedroom with king-sized bed, and a generous en suite. Family tents with two bedrooms are also available.

Each tent has its own private outdoor terrace where you can chill out at the end of the day. Because they’re all oriented to look out towards the dunes, you feel completely secluded.

At dusk, cars ferry camp guests high up into the dunes to watch the sun set over the camp. Drinks and nibbles are provided.

The on-site restaurant is outstanding. In the evening, everyone gathers to lounge on divans and listen to traditional Omani music. Dinner is served by lamp-light, buffet-style with a huge offering of traditional Omani cuisine and international dishes.

Camel rides, dune bashing and quad bikes are available to hire to explore the surrounding dunes.

But honestly, the best thing to do is relax inside your air-conditioned tent.

When it comes time to leave the camp, continue driving west to reach Nizwa or Muscat.

If it happens to be a Tuesday, make sure you stop off at the small town of Al Mintarib to visit the once-weekly market.

There's no shortage of luxury camping sites in South Africa, but many are staggeringly expensive.

On a recentself-drive safari to PilanesburgI spent a night at theAfrican Elegance Tented Lodgewhich not only offered luxury glamping accommodations at a reasonable price but game-viewing on your doorstep.

The tents are spacious, and there's plenty of room to move around the double bed. Each tent has electricity and enough sockets to charge several devices.

In the main reception area, the plunge pool has a spectacular view over the bush, and the terrace is where breakfast is served.

Every evening there's a meal served around a campfire and while the food is simple, its delicious. What made the dinner special was the opportunity to meet other guests.

The topic of conservation was mostly about who had seen which animals during their time atPilanesberg National Park.

Pilanesberg is home to the big 5 African animals, and the main entrance is approximately a 10-minute drive from the camp. If you don't have your vehicle, the owner Anton can arrange safari drives.

The Lodge is within a small game reserve, and one of the things that makes a stay here so unique is the opportunity to see game animals within proximity of the campsite.

Every morning Anton organizes a game walk which you can join for a small fee. His knowledge is phenomenal, and I didn't realize how much you can learn about spotting animals by looking at the tracks within the bush.

If you're lucky on the walk, you'll see the family of giraffes that live within the reserve and get some fantastic photographs.
